Finally!
Whew! What a wait! You just spent the last 9 (ok, 10) months making an entire human being! Now it's time to show this amazing new person off! What better time than now to show the world all your hard work!
I would like to take a few moments to offer a few simple guidelines to make sure you have the very best newborn portraits you can have.
When should I have my baby photographed?
The very best time to have your baby's portraits made is within the first 6 days. Now, I realize that this isn't always possible- maybe you have had a C-Section, or maybe you've just had a baby! (haha) Having a baby (no matter which way you did it) is hard and tiring. We kindly request that the baby is in the studio before he or she is 14 days old. Amazingly, at 14 days your baby is a totally new person- they are more aware and they are also a lot less 'bendy.'
What should I bring with me?
For the most part, we have found that the best accessories for the session really are blankets and birthday suits. Your baby could not be any more perfect than the way she arrived. 99% of the newborn images made at Inspire are of nudie-cuties. Of course, you are welcome to bring outfits, however, for the most part they just never fit babies 'just right.' I have a large variety of hats and headbands, tiny toys and newborn props- don't make yourself crazy looking for props- if you want it, I probably have it! Don't be afraid to ask!
If you have any special baby gifts, toys or memorabilia please feel free to bring it! If it is important to you, it is important to me. If Daddy is a firefighter, bring in his gear. Mom is a professor? Bring in books and globes and cool things that show off who you are as a family. You cannot bring too much stuff. I promise.
If you are bottle feeding your newborn make sure that you have plenty of food available. Babies get hungry very easily- let's make sure we can keep baby happy!
How long does a session last?
Typically, sessions last anywhere between 45 minutes and three hours. We can usually get a session done in under two hours, however, sometimes baby needs a little more snuggle time- and that's just fine by me! I will take whatever time we need to get the job done.
Can I bring someone else along with me?
Yes and no. If your husband or mother want to come along to watch they are more than welcome to join us. I love the feeling of family and connection- especially if this is your first baby, there is just magic in the air with a new grandma in the room (pure magic!)
Unfortunately, other children are not allowed in the session while we are photographing a newborn. As loving adults we cannot expect children under the age of 12 to fully understand what is going on- much less to be calm and quiet while a very long session is under way. Of course, I understand that your older child is perfect and loves the new baby, but for the safety of the newborn we cannot allow additional children under the age of 12 in the camera room while we are photographing the baby. If an older child comes to the session, we will not be able to photograph your newborn- and rescheduling will require a second sitting fee to be paid- and there is no guarantee I will be able to get you in (our schedule fills up VERY quickly.)
Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any additional questions- I am sure that there is something else you would like to know and we are happy to answer any of your questions. We love babies, let us help you capture this special time now and forever. {406} 868-1663
